News

In January 2005, new safety legislation was introduced.

  • All commercial fishermen must now attend 1-day safety training courses in Sea Survival, Basic Firefighting, Elementary First Aid and Safety Awareness & Accident Prevention in accordance with Merchant Shipping Notice 1813(F)
  • New entrants to the industry must attend a Sea Survival course BEFORE going to sea for the first time. A one day basic health & safety course is also required. Basic Firefighting and Elementary First Aid courses should be attended during the first three months in the industry and the Safety Awareness course should attended by the end of the first year in the industry.
  • All of these courses will be provided free of charge for new entrant commercial fishermen from 1 July 2008. Applicants should contact us for an application form before attending any training courses.
  • Once all of these Seafish courses have been completed, a laminated certificate of course completion, similar to an ID card can be obtained free of charge from the Sea Fish Industry Authority.
